My Favorite Micro Habit: Schedule CEO Time
If you’re feeling overwhelmed about what you should be doing in your real estate business and you’re not yet doing…go ahead and thank your brain for that thought and then let it go.
Building a business is a journey, stitched together by 1% improvements.
Trust that you are exactly where you should be right now, even if it’s not where you ultimately want to be.
Create Space
CEO time is where you hold space to think strategically about your business. This is what keeps you from only focusing on tomorrow.
As a productive real estate agent, making space to think strategically can feel impossible when you’re juggling showings, client problems, inspections, figuring out social media and lead generation.
But if you want to get out of the vicious cycle of just getting through tomorrow, you’re going to need to set aside some time to plan…and protect it like your life depends on it. And trust me, your life actually does depend on this!
Schedule CEO Time
Set aside a 1-2 hour time block each week that you protect on your calendar . This is your CEO time. And to be clear, this is not Lead Generation time. This is where you make progress on your most important initiatives like mapping out your year-long database nurture plan.
Stay Focused
As someone with ADHD, I arm myself with strategies to stay focused. Here are seven strategies I use to make the most of CEO time.
I plan exactly what I’m going to focus on (my most important initiative) and what the outcome should be.
I write down my plan the night before, if not earlier. (Waiting until the time block starts to plan never works.)
I put myself in a room with zero distractions and my phone is on DND mode.
This time block is always scheduled for when my brain is at its peak and no one needs anything from me (early morning).
My email tab is NOT open.
If I’m struggling to get started, I set a timer for 15 minutes and check in after the time is up. (I’m always good to continue after the 15 minutes.)
If I’m really struggling, I do a quick 5-minute guided mediation to quiet the mental chatter.
Build a Fence Around It
Once you are able to be consistent with your CEO time, build a fence around it. Create rules to protect it and make sure your team knows not to schedule anything or interrupt you during this time.
Setting aside focused time for strategic planning is the highest leveraged move you can make as an agent. When you create space to execute your most important initiatives, your business will move forward faster and with greater ease.
